Jaden made his acting debut in the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness alongside his father Will, who both play a father and son role each named Christopher Gardner respectively from which Jaden won the award for Breakthrough Performance at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards. Jaden would later appear in films often remakes of old films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still; a 2008 remake of 1951 film directed by Scott Derrickson which also starred Keanu Reeves and The Karate Kid; a 2010 remake of the 1984 film directed by Harald Zwart which also starred Jackie Chan. In 2013, Jaden and Will starred in another father and son film called After Earth directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The following year, Jaden portrayed a Kansas Territory slave in the film The Good Lord Bird based on 2013 novel of the same written by James McBride. Since then, Jaden took a short break from acting to focus on his music until 2017, when he starred in the Netflix series The Get Down. His recent project was Life in a Year in which he starred alongside Cara Delevinge and focus on a teenager (Jaden) who discovers his girlfriend (Delevigne) has cancer.
